5 Myths About Promotional Items

Many myths exist surrounding promotional items. People commonly believe that they are an unsuccessful or generic way to market consumers, however, promotional items are actually more effective and dynamic than you may think. Myth #1: They’re too expensive.

Believe it or not, promotional items are one of the most cost-effective forms of advertising. They have a lower CPI in the US than TV, magazine and newspaper ads. According to ASI, the average CPI of a promotional item is only $.005.


Myth #2: People don’t actually use them.

Because there are so many branded items out there, people just toss away any promotional items they receive, right? Wrong.  People love free stuff. According to the Promotional Products Association International (PPAI), 83% of consumers like receiving a promotional product with an advertising message.


Myth #3: All promotional product companies are the same.

It’s widely believed that since all promotional product companies seem to do the same thing, it doesn’t matter which company you choose to work with. This myth simply isn’t true. There are over 23,000 promotional product distributers in the US, each with a different art department, promotional staff, and merchandising team. Depending on which distributer you choose, your promotional product will reflect that decision.



Myth #4: They won’t work for my business.

Promotional products can work for any brand or campaign. Promotional products are a simple and easy way to drive traffic and produce brand awareness no matter that your company’s goal is. According to PPAI, 85% of consumers do business with advertisers after receiving their promotional product.


Myth #5: They don’t last long.

Think all promotional items get thrown away? Think again. Promotional items give your company long-lasting exposure. According to data from ASI, people keep promotional items for an average of 6.6 months.
